The UK had 68.1 million internet users, 97.8% of the population, and 99.3 million mobile connections, equal to 143% of the population, at the end of 2025 (DataReportal, Digital 2026). Connections count SIM cards and devices rather than people, but almost everyone is online. For a London business, a Google Maps listing seen on a phone is one of the places a new customer can meet you first.
This article compares five local SEO tools on what their official pages say. It complements our complete guide to optimising your Google Business Profile in London.
Why local search matters in London
We found no London-specific figures on how customers use Google Maps, so this article does not invent any. What Google does say is that local results rely mainly on relevance, distance and prominence (Google Business Profile help), and it has not published how much each one counts. In a dense city, distance changes quickly: the same search can show different businesses from Shoreditch than from Clapham, and from one side of a borough to the other. Treat that as a hypothesis to test with your own scans, not a published fact.
Five local SEO tools compared
The order is editorial and the same in all our country guides: it is not a ranking. Prices are in US dollars, taken from each tool’s official pricing page on 26 October 2026, and they can change. Pages may show pounds to UK visitors, so check before you buy.
BrightLocal
BrightLocal sells three plans per location. Track costs $41 a month on monthly billing ($31 billed annually) and includes local rank monitoring, a geo-grid map for up to five keywords, citation monitoring and a Google Business Profile audit. Manage adds scheduled GBP posts and Grow adds review tools. The page offers a 14-day trial with no card.
Whitespark
Whitespark sells separate products rather than one suite. Local Ranking Grids start at $10 a month and monitor up to 225 geographic points. Local Citation Finder starts at $33 a month and Local Platform at $1 a month per location for managing profiles and blocking unwanted updates.
Semrush Local
Semrush Local is priced per location, and each location needs its own subscription. Local Base costs $30 a month and includes the Map Rank Tracker with 375 geo-grid credits. Local Pro costs $60 a month and adds Listing Management, Review Management and GBP Optimization. Businesses with 20 or more locations are quoted by sales.
Local Falcon
Local Falcon focuses on grid scans. Plans run from $24.99 a month for 7,500 credits to $199.99 for 63,150. One credit is one map pin on a scan, so a 5×5 grid uses 25 credits, and grids range from 3×3 to 21×21. Its pricing page does not describe Google profile management.
LocalEdge
LocalEdge has a free Lite version and a paid Solo access. On its global pricing page, Solo is a one-time payment of $49 with no subscription, and the page says local rates appear once you select your country, including the United Kingdom. Guardian monitoring is a monthly add-on from $4.90 after 15 free days. Lite covers the GBP Score, review management, four posts and four photos a month. The Rank Tracker Heatmap, a geo-grid of up to 21 by 21 points and up to five keywords per scan, belongs to Solo and not to Lite. You can check your position first with the free LocalEdge visibility scan.
Comparison table
The twelve-month column is the monthly price times twelve for one location. The tools do different jobs, so it is a budget guide only.
| Tool | Starting price | 12 months, one location | Grid or heatmap | GBP management | Free option |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BrightLocal | $41/month (Track) | $372 to $492 | Geo-grid, up to 5 keywords | Audit; scheduled posts from Manage | 14-day trial |
| Whitespark | From $1/month per location (Local Platform) | $12 (Local Platform) or $120 (Local Ranking Grids) | Local Ranking Grids, up to 225 points | Local Platform manages profiles | Not stated |
| Semrush Local | $30/month per location (Local Base) | $360 | Map Rank Tracker, 375 credits | GBP Optimization in Local Pro | Not stated |
| Local Falcon | $24.99/month, 7,500 credits | $299.88 | Grid scans, 3×3 to 21×21 | Not described | Not stated |
| LocalEdge | Lite free; Solo $49 one-time (global page) | $0 with Lite; $49 for Solo | Heatmap in Solo, not in Lite | Lite: score, reviews, posts, photos | Lite |
What LocalEdge adds in London, and what it does not
Three facts from the product pages matter here. Lite is free and needs no card, so you can see your GBP Score before paying anything. Solo is a one-time payment rather than a monthly invoice per location, which matters for small budgets and for agencies with many small clients. And the site offers a UK option alongside its global one.
London is a multilingual city, and the interface is offered in English, French, Spanish, German, Turkish and Portuguese. You can still write your Google profile in any language your customers use. Lite has no heatmap, so a business that wants to see its position street by street needs Solo or another tool from the table.
How to choose for a London business
- One shop or clinic on a tight budget: start free with Lite or a trial, and add a paid tool only when you know what you need to track.
- Several sites across boroughs: per-location pricing multiplies with every address, so compare the twelve-month column, not the monthly price.
- An agency with many clients: check whether profile management, reporting and rank tracking are in one plan or in separate products.
No tool can promise a position, so pair any choice with a complete profile and replies to reviews. To compare plans, see the LocalEdge plans page for the UK, or go straight to the free LocalEdge Lite version.
